Sedimentary rocks are simple rocks made from pieces of rocks, chemicals
or organic material. They are many ways to classify rocks of this nature,
if you put 10 geologist into a room I expected you would get 10 different
answers. For connivence sack I shall place them into 3 simple groups;
clastic, chemical and carbonaceous. Clastic being derived from broken parts
of other rocks. Chemical coming from mineral precipitation in water. Carbonaceous
rocks contain a significant amount modified organic material.

Sedimentary rocks are found on the earths crusts. They form at or near
the surface and cover a good portion of it. Over the earths long history,
any igneous or metamorphic rocks are weathered, transported and deposited.
Then sedimentary rocks are formed as this process continues, Rocks such as
these are very valuable and interesting. Sedimentary rocks can contain
important resources like oil, coal, uranium, iron and salt for example.
Fossils and other clues to earths past are found in them as well.

It is not the purpose of this site to be a tell all about rocks. More a
way to share some information I have learned over my studies of geology
in simple a manner. I recommend reading the book Principles of
sedimentology and stratigraphy; by Sam Boggs, Jr, it was one of the
texts for my sedimentology course and contains more information for M
those interested. I will base some of my pages on sedimentary rocks
of information from his text. Thanks Mr Boggs.
